Consistent with civil rights activism, the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science focuses on methods for community-driven research and education, community engagement, participatory research, and advocacy for policies that address structural problems. We rely on wisdom from communities in San Diego to partner with us for health interventions and advocacy.
During the 2024 State of the School, Dean Cheryl A.M. Anderson, PhD, MPH, addressed faculty, staff, academics and students the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health, highlighting the current state of the school and recognizing faculty and staff for their merits and accomplishments.
Dean Cheryl A. M. Anderson, PhD, MPH, addresses updates to the Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health strategic plan; the role of community for a school of public health; the competitive advantage of research resources within UC San Diego including global health, border regions, and aging research and longevity science; the history and importance of partnering with county and local entities to provide substantial policy work for tobacco cessation, substance use and abuse, mental health, women's health and reproductive justice, and more.
