September 2020:

  • John Pierce, PhD and UC San Diego researchers publish two analyses of a large nationally representative longitudinal study on e-cigarette use and cessation rates. The first study, published in PLOS One, demonstrated no evidence of a difference in cessation rates between e-cigarette users and closely matched cigarette smokers who did not use e-cigarettes. The second study, published in American Journal of Epidemiology, demonstrated that participants who used e-cigarettes to quit smoking were less likely to be nicotine-free at follow-up, as many were still using e-cigarettes, which also contain nicotine. Read more.
